2014 Belgian Grand Prix

Red Bull's Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo's fantastic third win of the 2014 season at the majestic Spa-Francorchamps circuit in the Belgian Ardennes was sadly overshadowed by events on lap two of this the 12th race of the campaign.

Starting on pole position Mercedes champioship leader Nico Rosberg lost the lead to his team mate Lewis Hamilton by turn one. As the drivers started their second lap Rosberg was well placed to attempt a pass of his English rival's car. Running alongside Hamilton into the right handed Les Combes corner Rosberg held his position on the outside of the corner. Lewis taking a standard racing line gave Nico ample room and opportunity to make the turn but, in a petulant and ill-advised move the German allowed his right front wing endplate to rub up against the left rear Pirelli tyre of Hamilton's car.

Leaving the corner the leader's car slewed from left to right as a puncture sent his car of the road and hobbling back to the pits. Rosberg - his front wing now damaged - drove on to eventually claim second place ahead of Williams driver Valtteri Bottas. The young Finn continuing to impress in this his break through season.
