Starting from pole position Lewis Hamilton led the field away under Safety Car conditions. After a few laps the grid formed again and the first Formula 1 standing-start-restart took place.
On a wet-drying then wet again track many drivers struggled to remain in control of their cars with a number of them sliding off and hitting barriers. Through it all Max Verstappen steered his Red Bull ride to take a stunning win with Sebastian Vettel driving from plumb last at the start to a second place finsih followed home by Daniil Kvyat giving Toro Rosso their first podium finish since Italy 2008.
