Spanish Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz took both his first pole position and Formula One victory at Silverstone, standing on the winner's podium alongside second placed finisher, Mexican Red Bull Racing racer Sergio Pérez, and third position finisher, Merecedes' English driver Lewis Hamilton.

A multi-car accident occurred seconds after the start as the cars approcaed the first corner, in which Zhou Guanyu's Alfa Romeo car flipped over the tyre wall. The Chinese driver thankfully unhurt in the dramatic incident.
